I would be lying if I said it was not a daily struggle to live a healthy life.  Every morning at 5:50 the battle begins.  Ten minutes later I am either back asleep or up and ready to workout.  I have to continually remind myself that the feelings after eating and drinking well, exercising and a living healthy lifestyle far outweigh that of not bothering at all.

Think of it this way:  remember how you felt after that ice-cream, remember the cake you had?  Was the taste sensation really greater than the feelings afterwards?  Answer:  Probably not!  Let’s not also forget that temptation is all around us, every hour of every day.  It never ends! In my article, Rejuv Protocol, I wrote how I lost over a stone (roughly 9kg or 20 lbs for you Americans) near the end of last year.  Now that I had instilled discipline into my life I wanted to continue my efforts in losing the remaining fat and tone up my body.   For 2011, I was convinced there had to be a fitness regimen to meet this goal other than going for a 50 minute run each morning or spending large amounts of money on a gym membership.  Who really gets their money’s worth out of a gym anyways?  After pondering about what I should do, my husband pointed me in the direction of P90 or Power 90 by Beachbody (www.beachbody.com).

The P90 series includes a vast array of products:  P90, P90 Master Series, P90X and P90X Plus.  These are basically separate grades of exercise videos with a set time line of 90 days, hence the name P90.  They were developed in the USA by Tony Horton and Beachbody and encourage you to create a ‘boot-camp’ style workout in your home that consists of a variety of exercises: Yoga, Stretching, Cardio, Free Weights, Core Cardio, Cardio intervals and more.

To begin my new exercise regimen, I started off with the Power 90 series from www.beachbody.com.  The program consists of 4 levels grouped in 2 phases (1 and 2, 3 and 4) on two DVDs:

• Sweat (Level 1 and 2) – Consisting of pilates, kickboxing and cardio moves to burn fat fast.
• Sculpt (Level 1 and 2) - Simple moves that work to tone and strengthen your whole body.
• Sweat (Levels 3 and 4) – Adding more challenging moves to build leaner, stronger muscles.
• Sculpt (Levels 3 and 4) - Taking in up another level to burn more calories and increase fat burning.
• Ab Ripper 100 (Levels 1 and 2) & 200 (Levels 3 and 4) – Ab routines designed to give you the flat stomach you always desired.  10 different ab routines of 10 reps for 100 and 20 reps for 200.

Now you may be thinking the same thing I did….. let me assure you… it’s not the same old “Rah Rah” type of fitness program that what you may have seen and done before.. Promise!

They were perfect for starting a fitness program and may look easy but believe me, they are not.  Each day was different and challenging which I loved.  After a few months and having conquered the initial 90 days, I moved on to the next level of DVD – Sweat 3/4, Sculpt 3/4 and Ab Ripper 200.  Taking it up a notch kept my interest but once again after a considerable amount of time and again increasing my fitness level, I needed another challenge.  Initially, I was looking into P90X from www.beachbody.com when my husband said to me, “why don’t you try the P90 Master Series (P90MS) before you look for something else?”

I am now about 2 months in to P90MS and am loving the challenge.  He was right to suggest the P90 Master series first as I am no longer bored.  Every day I have a completely different workout.  The workouts are designed to get you faster and better results in the shortest amount of time possible.  This is all because of a what Tony calls “muscle confusion”; various exercises done on different days without a set routine simply “confuses” the muscle not to remember the exercises which it turn tricks it into thinking this is the first time you have been working out.  It is simple, doesn’t cost much and has made a profound difference in how I view exercise.  You simply just need to buy it!!

Many of you may have heard of Stella McCartney, the famous fashion designer and   daughter to Sir Paul McCartney of The Beatles.  She is definitely one of my favourite designers for women today.  When one of my closest friends, Zoë Boomer, was labelled as the next Stella McCartney of Ireland, I was more than excited to be one of the first to receive some of her designs to sample for myself.

The style of Zoë Boomer is best described as distinct and unique with a strong sense of femininity that is subtlety proclaimed throughout every seasonal collection.  If you are looking for unique pieces to add to your Spring/Summer wardrobe, then this is definitely the year to start.   Search for new and up and coming designers like Zoë Boomer to add to your wardrobe collection.  This will lessen the risk of seeing a friend who has bought the same top you purchased just days ago but have not had a chance to wear yet.

With her designs and presentations, Zoë Boomer does not stick to the norm of today’s fashion designers.  For example, last year during one of her shows, instead of having the conventional drinks and runway presentation, Zoë Boomer ‘took it to the streets”.  Unannounced and impromptu catwalks took place at the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern as well at the London premiere of Sex And The City 2.  This caused a general buzz and awareness of Zoë Boomer, the up and coming designer.  Two definite head turning events.  Her latest stunt was during London Fashion Week 2011 at the Rooftop Gardens in Kensington.  Instead of the typical straight catwalk, the presentation revolved around a hidden section within the room revealed by sliding doors.  The anticipation I have for her next collection is beyond description.  I can’t wait to see how and where she will be presenting her latest designs next.  Zoë Boomer’s unique style continues as she personalises her garments by most commonly naming them after friends and family.  I have personally had the honour of having one of her dresses named after me.  It’s not everyday you can say that.

One of the things I have learned from Zoë is that designers who are trying to make it in to the industry usually price their garments reasonably.  Often they will hold sample sales on a regular basis and at deep discounts.  What this means for you is fantastic savings and the ability to shop well within your budget.  Everyone wins…. you get a new Zoë Boomer designer outfit without breaking the bank.

I hate colds. Period. During the entire month of December I was ill with a combination of colds, the flu and a nasty stomach bug. It was just plain awful. So, I decided to make a change because I was ready to be reminded of how healthy my body could actually feel. I am now more determined to not spend another month with out having my daily dose of Cellagon juice.
